My Switch To

Non-Toxic Makeup

Several months ago, I purged and threw out all of my conventional makeup for a cleanse and fresh start — and I've been LOVING IT ever since!

For me, so much of getting ready and presenting myself to the world is mental. If I’m wearing something that looks acceptable on the outside to others but I mentally don’t feel good about it, I just can’t do it. I end up not having a good time and having bad energy in whatever I’m doing. That’s how I started to feel about wearing conventional makeup — it looked fine, I just felt yucky. I want to feel AND look good — and all natural makeup helps me achieve just that. After all, isn’t the whole makeup industry about boosting self confidence and loving the skin that you’re in?

I hated feeling like I was piling on all of these ingredients containing God knows what. Even if I liked the way I looked wearing these products, I just had kind of a gross feeling with them sitting on top of my skin. Maybe I’m alone with this, but before, I couldn’t WAIT to get home and take all my makeup off. Now, even when I’m wearing a full face of makeup, it feels light, healthy and I have no problem wearing it for extended periods of time.

Outside of the “feeling”, there are substantial health benefits involved in wearing “clean” makeup. Here are some compelling reasons why I made the switch and why you might consider it too:

Foundations, lipsticks, powders, etc. are all part of an unregulated multi-billion dollar beauty and personal care industry. Companies are allowed to put almost anything in products, including known toxins that are linked to the formation of cancer, endocrine disruption, reproductive issues and other debilitating diseases and skin conditions. Even worse, they are not TELLING us about many of the ingredients used such as lead, heavy metals and other toxic chemicals that make up some of our favorite products.

Your skin can absorb more than 60% of these toxins unfiltered, so putting these products on your face provides a DIRECT route for these chemicals to get inside your body. Our face actually absorbs 5 to 10 times more chemicals than the rest of our body, so your pores are literally drinking up a toxic cocktail that goes directly into your bloodstream. Because of this, women absorb an estimated 5 pounds of cosmetic chemicals annually.

On the complete opposite spectrum, not only does all natural makeup NOT contain any of the bad stuff, it actually includes skin-loving ingredients. Antioxidants and other nourishing and healing ingredients FEED and enhance your skin while you’re wearing them. Some of these nutrient dense cosmetics might include superfoods, enzymes, essential fatty acids, vitamins A, B, C, D, E, K , antioxidants, and other anti-inflammatory ingredients. Now you know why I love putting this stuff on my skin! I get to treat my skin even while I’m glamming! For suggestions on some of my favorite nourishing and natural makeup (that also looks great), visit my "Daytime Look" article or my "Evening Look" article.

With the growing information available today on the harmful effects conventional cosmetics have on our health, there’s no reason you should be ignoring the issue! I know you’ll be hooked once you swap your conventional products for healthier options — I’m SO happy I did and honestly love and enjoy wearing these products so much more. It just feels right, not to mention they look GREAT and some of them even outperform my conventional cosmetics from before. I don’t know why I didn’t switch sooner!
